How to Remove Personal Photos from Google Search Results

Googling your name and seeing a private or outdated photo can be a shock. Whether it's an old social media headshot or a photo on a data broker site, here is how to get it taken down.

It is important to understand that Google is just a library index. To remove photos from Google, you usually need to address the website hosting the image (the source) or ask Google to stop showing the link.

1. Use Google's "Results About You" Tool

Google recently launched a dashboard that lets you request the removal of search results containing your personal phone number, home address, or email. While this focuses on text, it often removes the associated profile photos.

  • Open the Google App on your phone or visit the Google Account page.
  • Select "Results about you".
  • If you see your info, tap the three dots and select Remove result.

2. Request Removal for Sensitive Images

If the photo is explicit (non-consensual), reveals sensitive ID info (like a credit card), or puts you at risk of harm, Google will expedite its removal.

You can file a specific legal request through Google's Removal Troubleshooter.

🛑 The "Source" Problem

Even if Google deletes the link, the photo still exists on the original website. Anyone with the direct link can still see it.

3. The Root Cause: People Search Sites

Most unwanted photos appearing in search results come from Data Brokers like MyLife, Spokeo, and Radaris. These sites scrape your old social media profiles and create a "dossier" on you.

To permanently remove photos from Google, you must force these companies to delete your profile. Once the profile is gone, the Google Image result will break and disappear naturally.
